ABOUT THE CITY

Hong Kong has been the venue for a number of major rowing events, including the 1st Asian Rowing Championships in 1985, the 2003 and 2008 Asian Rowing Junior Championships and the 2009 East Asian Games Regatta and 2013 Asian Rowing Cup II.

Statement from 2019 World Rowing Coastal Championships Organising Committee on the current situation in Hong Kong
4th October 2019
The 2019 WRCC Organising Committee’s “Contingency and Situation Monitoring Group” today held its regular meeting to review the experience from last Sunday (when the OC successfully organised the Hong Kong Rowing Coastal Championships on the same course and same venue as the WRCC) and from the National Day holiday on 1st October.
As expected, there were heightened levels of disruption and protest over these two special days. However, the overall assessment for 2019 WRCC remains the same, that we will be able to organise the championships in a safe and successful manner.
We are continuing to monitor the situation as it will almost certainly develop further on a daily or weekly basis and there will be some special dates in the coming several weeks which might attract additional disruption. At present these potential dates do not appear to coincide with our ceremony days or competition days, but we will monitor to see if this changes. We have a number of contingency plans in place for any such issues.
The Contingency Group is also developing advisory and communication measures and guidelines to ensure that we can keep teams well informed during their time in Hong Kong. Guidelines will be distributed to teams upon arrival and additional information will be provided at the Crew Captain’s Meeting and daily from the Team Information Desk at the venue as well as via messaging.
In the meantime, any teams with specific questions are welcome to contact the Organising Committee.
