Lightweight men's pair (LM2-) - Final
A preliminary race yesterday put Austria just ahead of China. But today was a new day and expectations must have been high for this first World Rowing Cup of 2015. With that China had a blistering start to grab the lead. Then Spain’s Ander Zabala and Imanol Garnendia got their nose in front. Zabala and Garnendia are the current under-23 World Champions in the lightweight four and two days ago they won this boat class in the Bled International Regatta.
China’s Mingyang Liang and Yiahao Li held onto the Spanish pace and then in the final sprint took their stroke rate to 39 to inch ahead of Zabala and Garnendia. China had won, bettering Spain after finishing second to them in the Bled International Regatta.
Results: CHN1, ESP, GER1, AUT
Silver – Ander Zabala Artetexe – Spain
The regatta was very close, all crews nearly equal. We tried everything in final sprint to get first.
Bronze – Kevin Alexander Diedrich – Germany
We are new together as a pair. We are the spare pair for the lightweight four. We don’t know what we will do next this season as the priority for the team is to have a fast lightweight four.
