Para PR2 Men’s Single Sculls – Final
A – Final
What an incredible start for The Netherlands’ Corné de Koning in the A-final of the para PR2 men’s single sculls. He jumped out of the start, followed by Laurence Whiteley of Great Britain. Italy’s Gianfilippo Mirabile had a wobble off the start that meant he was left behind.
Through the second thousand, de Koning got into his rhythm and just kept moving away. He blew the field away with his lead. Whiteley maintained silver medal position through the finish line with Mirabile taking bronze.
Results: NED, GBR, ITA
Corne De Koning, Netherlands, gold
“It was a good race, racing the single is an extra challenge as we have the double in two hours. It’s good to have a race before and still feel as if you have energy left. I think it is important that we rode the single and that we make the para fields bigger.”
Laurence Whiteley, Great Britain, silver
“Race was good, The Netherlands are still the ones to beat here but I think we’re responding well.”
Gianfilippo Mirabile, Italy, bronze
“It was a good race, I’ve only been rowing for a month and a half. I come from para-triathlon and I’m looking forward to what the next year will bring.”
