“The venue is beautiful and the conditions have been very calm, looks like a bit of a swell, but we hope it gets a bit rougher, we prefer it!”

“Absolutely delighted to be here to take part, because coastal rowing is one of the most fantastic sports you can take part in.”

Steve Jarret – Ynys Mon Rowing Club (GBR) – CM2x
“It’s a very nice venue, good food, friendly people, but not much wind yet! I first went to the ‘Challenge’ in 2004 and have been to every one of the Championships since. We don’t have river rowing in my home town so it’s always on the sea.”

Helen Peters – supporter of Ynys Mon Rowing Club (GBR)
“Bari is a bit of a concrete jungle but I think the sea is fantastic and the conditions are perfect. It looks like a very well-run event and it’s fantastic to see lots of different nationalities here. This is the first time I’ve been to one of these championships. I only started rowing this summer so still a bit of a novice but have a lot of support from the crew members and am really enjoying it. I already do sailing and the rowing club is very near on the coast.”

Daniel Boecker – Helsingborgs Roddklubb (SWE) – CM1x
“This is the third championships for me. I had a great race and I think this is a great venue. It’s the best championships I’ve been to.”

“We were hoping for more waves as we are not as big and strong as others! Our cox is probably the ‘fattest cox’ here but he is the best, last time we raced we surfed practically the whole way.”

Michelle Boss – Victoria City Rowing Club – CW1x
“I started rowing last year in Istanbul in a single and just decided to race. It turned out alright! I was in a 42km race in Quebec, and it was a very stormy day and the waves were gigantic. Before my boat began to sink and the race was called off, I found the waves really exciting and wanted to try rowing on wavier water.”
“It’s very well set up and excellent for viewing – the course allows you to see the boats race. No complaints. I started rowing seven years ago and also competed for Canada and have done Masters rowing.”
