100 days to go to World Rowing Championships
More than 20 000 tickets have been sold for the 2010 World Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro, New Zealand as the clock ticks down to 100 days to go.
This comes with the announcement by the Karapiro organising committee, that the programme is to include an impressive opening ceremony scheduled for the 30 October, the day before racing commences. Top New Zealand band, OPSHOP (click here for music clip) will play at the opening ceremony with other New Zealand acts scheduled for throughout the championship week. Both Gin Wigmore and Autozamm have given the nod to perform during the week.
The Karapiro2010 press release stated: “The Opening Ceremony on Saturday 30 October will begin with a nostalgic look back at the 1978 Championships, the last time the event was held in New Zealand, followed by a flotilla of water craft with athletes and celebrities celebrating the history of the oldest Olympic sport and the success of New Zealand rowers – and other sports – over the years. The formal part of the ceremony will include a powhiri (Maori welcoming) in the presence of the Maori King and the official flag-raising. A 90-minute gig from top New Zealand rockers OPSHOP will bring the day to a close.”
