32nd FISA World Coaches Conference to take place in Athens, Greece

The world’s most knowledgeable experts in rowing related topics will be in Athens next November for the 32nd World Coaches Conference.
British Director of International Rowing and MBE David Tanner will be the special guest in a segment called “Coach in the Spotlight”- an in-depth investigation of a successful national system. Expert physiologist Stefanos Volianitis, already present at last years World Rowing Forum will also present his latest research on oxygen uptake in a presentation on Friday entitled ?Oxygen Uptake: a novel view of old concepts?.
Other topics will be presented by sports scientists and coaches and will range from training arrangements, selection systems and issues relating to adaptive rowing to more medical issues such as the effects of rowing on the lower back and physiological predictors of 2000m ergometre performance.
A special presentation by Michael Mann will evaluate the effects of music as an ergogenic aid and in the learning of rowing.
The conference will come to an end with an exclusive Gala dinner at which the 2003 FISA awards will be distributed to reward the world’s best male and female athlete as well as honouring the coach of the year.
During the weekend, the 150 expected participants will be offered the opportunity to visit the Olympic rowing course in Schinias just 30 minutes out of town.
The coaches conference will take place at the Grecotel Athens Acropol which is centrally located on Omonia square in the heart of the business and shopping district and within walking distance of the acropolis, the old city (Plaka) and most of the sights and attractions of Athens.
The event will begin with a welcome dinner on Thursday 6th November and will end on Sunday 9th November. Please ensure that all hotel bookings are made by 26 September in order to guarantee accommodation.
