The National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) will organise the seventh edition of its World University Rowing Championship from August 22 to 24, 2002 to be held in Nottingham, Great Britain. The competition is dedicated to student athletes born between January 1, 1974 and December 31, 1984.

The popularity of rowing among student athletes is such that it was included as an optional sport in the Universiade of 1987 in Zagreb (YUG), in 1989 in Duisburg (GER) and in 1993 in Buffalo, (USA) and since 1984 has been a part of the World University Championships programme.

The WUC Rowing is the highlight of a nine-day celebration of rowing that includes, in addition to the university racing, and adaptive rowing regatta, a rowing conference as well as rowing taster days for the general public.

The event will be based at the national Water Sports centre, Holme Pierrepont that has hosted a variety of elite-level rowing events including the 1975 and 1986 FISA World Rowing Championships.

Over 300 athletes drawn from at lest 20 countries are expected to compete in the 2002 Championships.
