Eskild Ebbesen receives IOC Trophy from Niels Holst-Sørensen
Two-time Olympic Champion and one of FISA's top 10 rowers for 2004, Denmark's Eskild Ebbesen was honoured last week with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Trophy, 2005, for Denmark.
In a ceremony witnessed by the Danish National Rowing Team, Ebbesen was presented with the trophy by IOC honorary member Niels Holst-Sørensen.
Ebbesen, the most successful lightweight rower in the world, retired after winning his third Olympic medal at the Athens Olympics. He now focuses on business and family but he stays very much involved in sport and has just completed his first running marathon.
The trophy is awarded to individuals or teams who have done something special in sport especially in line with fair play. The Danish Rowing Federation described Ebbesen as always being synonymous with fair play throughout his career. "He was an obvious choice for the NOC of Denmark when selecting the recipient of this year's IOC Trophy."
The presentation received attention from all of the major newspapers in Denmark.
