Last month keen African rowing coaches gathered in Sudan to learn and participate. Held in Khartoum, the course was facilitated by Faycal Soula, national Technical Director of the Tunisian Rowing Federation.

The course, hosted by the Sudan Rowing Federation with the support of Olympic Solidarity, attracted 18 participants, mainly from Sudan, and, amongst other things, carried out the FISA level one coaching certificate.

Covering safety, basic rigging, rowing technique, training methodology and rowing physiology, the course was held over nine days with participants taking an exam at the completion. Sudanese rowers participated in the practical side of the course using the Blue Nile to practice rowing.

After the course Soula commented that the water plans to row on the White and Blue Nile were favourable for the advancement of the sport of rowing in Sudan. The plan has room for an international race course.

At the conclusion of the course 18 participants passed the Level 1 FISA coaching certificate.

Rowing in Sudan centres around Khartoum which currently has four rowing clubs.

The World Rowing team values feedback.
