Home of the 1972 Olympic Games, the Olympia Regattaverein in Munich, Germany introduced day one of the second BearingPoint Rowing World Cup to cool, wet but calm conditions with barely a breath of wind and slight ripples on the water.

Today will see a full schedule of events including 46 heats in the morning and 28 second chances (repechages) in the afternoon. The biggest event, the men’s single, has narrowed from 34 to 25 entries as athletes continue to push their bodies to the limit as they struggle to keep in top health in this Olympic year.

The Olympia Regattaverein is no stranger to World Cup events. The venue, with Bernd Schumacher at the helm, hosted the first ever Rowing World Cup in its present day form in 1997 and since then it has been a World Cup stopover every year except 1999.
