Based on the recommendation from the Competitive Rowing Commission, FISA will experiment with a different progression system for 25 and more entries at the Rowing World Cup regattas this year, as discussed at the World Rowing Forum at the end of last year.

The issue is to make a better system which leads to two semi-finals rather than the three semi-finals in the current system. There was some concern that the three semi-final system could have the risk that not the correct crews reach Final A.

Rowers and coaches please note that there are no repechage races in this system. All crews will race in all rounds; heats, quarter finals, semi-finals and finals.

If the experiment goes well, FISA will consider modifying the official progression system for the World Championships.
