Women’s rowing in Malaysia has been developing in recent years

As part of its continuous efforts to increase the numbers of women in the sport of rowing, FISA, the International Rowing Federation is undertaking a new research project entitled ?The history of women in rowing?.

The aim of this study aimed at National Federations is to provide beneficial reference material and supporting documentation to evaluate the participation of women in the sport, and to further develop the efforts already being made to increase the participation of women in every aspect of rowing be it as athletes, coaches or in administration and to eventually achieve the targets set by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

These targets, set in 1996, established that by 2001 at least 10% and by 2005 at least 20% of the decision-making positions in the administration of all the bodies within the Olympic movement be held by women. FISA has not yet reached these numbers, however the FISA council supports this goal and asks that all member federations also strive to achieve these targets.

The study of history of women in rowing is just one of several projects undertaken by the FISA Women’s Commission to address this issue. Others include the Women’s Development camp, which attracted 21 female participants this year from ten countries and an athlete to athlete mentorship program for female athletes from developing countries.

FISA is requesting data from each member National Federation. Please complete the questionnaire which can be found in the Women’s Commission section of the website (Inside FISA/Commissions/Women’s Commission) and return it to the FISA office by November 15th or earlier if possible.
