Members of the FISA Events Commission Mike Sweeny and Svetla Otzetova together with FISA Executive Director Matt Smith will travel to Athens, Greece on Monday for a site visit to the 2004 Olympic venue.

The FISA team will first visit the Olympic Village in the city of Athens and will then proceed to the Schinias Rowing course situated approximately 45 km from the capital. The journey will be made by car in order to test travel times.

The 3-day visit will continue with meetings with Athens Olympic Organising Committee (ATHOC) to discuss issues relating to the Games logistics such as course construction, organisation, media issues, and accreditation. “We have set a very demanding pace ”says Events Commission Chairman Mike Sweeney of the agenda ”This could be a marathon day in Marathon!”

The Commission will also meet with members of the Hellenic Rowing Federation to discuss the 2003 FISA World Rowing Junior Championships which will be held on the Schinias regatta course as a test event for the Olympic regatta.

The FISA Events Commission is currently holding its annual meeting at the FISA headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. The four-person team is to spend the weekend reviewing the past season’s events.
