FISA Team Cup 500 metre day
Racing for the second day of the FISA Team Cup in Seville, Spain brought rowers back on the course for 500 metres of high rating action. Many national teams come to Seville during the European winter to get time away from their country’s frozen water.
A 500 metre sprint is enough to give any seasoned rower a shake up during their winter training. The lightweight men’s single had current World Champion Vassileios Polymeros of Greece finding himself behind Italy’s Elia Luini and Gerard van der Linden of the Netherlands.
The 2005 unbeaten British men’s four broke into different boats with Tom Solesbury, Tony Garbett, Alex Partridge and Steve Williams racing together but finishing out of the medals. Three Spanish crews grabbed all of the top honours and helped Spain to overall points winners.
Overall points: Spain 142, Netherlands 101, Great Britain 91
