The first Zurich Rowing World Cup for 2002 ended on a high note with blue skies, warm weather and wet coxswains. The winning crews were presented with medals and, in Olympic boat classes, yellow leader bibs at each award ceremony. They will also add points to their federation’s tally, which goes towards the leading nations cup prize.
Points are awarded to crews that place in the top seven of each Olympic event. Germany now holds the lead with an impressive 66 points, followed by Great Britain with 45 and Italy right behind on 42. At this stage last year the United States was leading the tally, with Canada in second.
The nation that has the most points at the conclusion of all three World Cup regattas will win the Overall Zurich Rowing World Cup. This will be presented at the conclusion of the final World Cup in Munich on August 3. With two more World Cups to go, the race for overall winner is still wide open.
