Olympic Solidarity Rowing Technical Course Nov 03

An Olympic Solidarity Technical Course for rowing coaches concluded in Hong Kong at the weekend. The course, which was part of a Level III coaching qualification, attracted around 30 coaches from clubs, universities and the National Team.

Topics included technique analysis, training methodology and the design of long-term training plans.

FISA Competitive Commission member Curtis Jordan was the guest expert speaker. Curtis has been a US National Coach at the last four Olympic Games and is Head Coach of the men’s heavyweight varsity team at Princeton University, USA. Eight universities in Hong Kong have budding rowing programmes and the university coaches were interested to hear how an ?Ivy League? university programme is run in the States.

Another guest speaker was Nick Gioga, former Head Coach of the multi-medal winning Romanian women’s team. Nick has been coaching nearby in China during the 2003 season. Local coaches were able to learn more about different kinds of training program and to ask about the ?secrets? of Romanian rowing.

Closing the seminar on Sunday, Pang Chung ? Hon. Secretary General of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China ? thanked Olympic Solidarity and FISA for their support and stressed the importance of coaching in the development of all sports in the region.
