HSH Prince Albert of Monaco to row in sea regatta
HSH Prince Albert of Monaco, grandson of Olympian John Brendan Kelly, will row in a 7km sea regatta off the coast of Monaco on Sunday 22 February 2004. His grandfather won two gold medals at the 1920 Olympic Games at Anvers in the single scull and in the double scull with partner Paul Costello.
On this occasion, Prince Albert will also decorate World double scull Champions Elia Luini and Leonardo Pettinari with the medal “Friends of Monaco” during the Honours Ceremony to be held at the Monaco Yacht Club.

The Monaco Challenge for single and double sculls, fours and eights is being organised by the Monaco Nautical Society and the Monaco Rowing Federation. Rowers from France, Italy, Switzerland and, of course, Monaco, will compete. The main attraction of the event is the special eight or “yawl”, made entirely of wood, which seat eight rowers and a cox.
A future project of the Monaco Nautical Society is to organise, in collaboration with the San Remo Canottieri Association, a long-distance Meditteranean regatta of 20 nautical miles between San Remo’s Riviera des Fleures and the Côte d’Azur.
