Ivan Dibos Named Minister for Sport in Peru

FISA Council member Ivan Dibos has been selected to lead the Ministry for Sport in Peru and is to take office on Monday. A Ministry devoted solely to sport has just been created, previously issues concerning sport in Peru were handled by the Ministry of Education.
In his new role Dibos is expected to attend the weekly meetings of the Council of Ministers and will represent the interests of sport to the Peruvian government.
“I will let them know how important sport is for the development of the children and for their future lives,” said Dibos.
In addition to his new role in his homeland, Dibos is also actively involved in sport at an international level. He has been a member of the FISA Council, as Continental Representative for South America, since 1991 as well as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1982.
Lima based Dibos also had a successful athletic career as a rower and was Peruvian Open Champion from 1957 to 1973, USA quad sculls champion in 1958, and National Canadian Open double sculls, coxless fours and eights champion in 1957 and 1958. He continues to row and compete to this day and won the Peruvian Masters Championships in coxless pair in 2000.
