For the first time ever, the 6th annual FISA Junior Coaches Conference, which took place in Larnaca, Cyprus last week attracted delegates from all five continents. The number of represented countries was the highest ever with 44 participants from 19 countries present.

The  2001 programme mainly featured lectures that touched on  practical issues  including a presentation by FISA medical Commission member Professor Jürgen Steinacker entitled “Nutritional supplements – facts and fiction” 

California State University athletic director and FISA Youth Rowing Commission member Debby De Angelis, from the USA shared her Junior World Championships experience in a presentation called “Coaches logistics at the FISA Junior World Championships”

Other presentations included “Is Coaching of boys and girls the same?” by Dr. Steadman from Great Britain and  “Risk management in rowing” by Barbra Fenner, Rowing Australia coach education director and FISA Youth Commission member.

Conference goers were also able to take part in a fitness session hosted by the Cypriot Coach, Yiannis Charalambous who showed his fellow coaches how he has incorporated the Fitness Ball, weights and aerobic exercise into his training regime.

Cyprus has been a member of FISA since 1989.
