Rowing venue in Trakai, Lithuania, host of the 2008 World Rowing Masters Regatta.Only a few more days are left to register for the 2008 World Rowing Masters Regatta to be held in Trakai, Lithuania, from 4 to 7 September.

The World Rowing Masters Regatta attracts thousands of competitors of all ages and levels from around the world. What makes it stand out in the rowing world is its continued growth in popularity. Participants from 39 countries have already registered to take part in the 2008 edition.

“Many of the rowers are seriously successful in the business world, others are former Olympic champions and some are complete beginners. It is a tribute to the sport of rowing that it both retains serious competitors and generates keen interest in relative newcomers,” says Peter Morrison, Chair of FISA’s Masters Rowing Commission.

Since the year 2000, one Euro has been added to each entry fee and donated to FISA’s Youth Commission to assist the development of youth rowing programmes in other parts of the world. In recent years this fund has been invested in the training of junior coaches.

The uniqueness of each venue often with fascinating cultural and historical sites adds to the appeal for competitors. Discovering a new place or re-visiting a known one, all the while competing in a favourite sport, is a lot of fun. Lithuania is a small European country where the sport of rowing has deep and long traditions.
