At the request of the Greek Olympic Committee the women’s lightweight double has been added to the Olympic Games as a qualified boat. This was approved by the International Olympic Committee under the host country clause and allows for two more rowers to compete at the Athens Olympics.

Maria Sakellaridou and Chrysi Biskitzi join their country’s lightweight men’s double as the second boat to qualify for the Olympics.

Sakellaridou and Biskitzi finished sixth at the final Olympic Qualification Regatta last month in Lucerne, Switzerland and missed out on qualifying as only the top two boats were allocated spots. This will be the second Olympic Games for both Sakellaridou and Biskitzi who finished eleventh at Sydney.

The Greek team was also permitted to add one more member to the dressage team but the men’s four was not granted approval.
