Master Rowers Help Juniors
The Organising Committee of the 2001 World Rowing Masters Regatta in Montreal, Canada has sent a check for CAN$ 20,038.75 to FISA as a donation to the FISA Youth Development Programme. The Montreal Organising Committee collected one Euro (CAN$ 1.25) from each of 7’536 rowing seats raced and from the 495 coxswain seats that were raced for a total of CAN$ 10,038.75.
In addition to this donation, the Montreal Organising Committee has donated CAN$ 10,000 from their own proceeds as a special contribution to the FISA Youth Development Programme.
This donation will assist junior athletes from developing FISA federations to participate at the 2002 Junior World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania this August. The FISA Masters Commission started this fund as a way for Masters rowers to help develop youth rowing internationally.
At the 2001 FISA Junior World Championships in Duisburg, Germany, donations from the previous FISA Master Regattas in Hazewinkel, Belgium and Seville, Spain assisted with transport and accommodation costs for teams from Algeria, Tunisia, India, Zimbabwe, Iceland, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Myanmar, Cyprus, Uruguay and Paraguay. The German Federation also supported this Youth Development Programme.
The 2002 FISA Junior World Championships take place in Trakia, Lithuania from 6-10 August. The 2002 FISA Masters Regatta will take place in Racice, Czech Republic from the 5-8 September.
