Athletes have arrived at Hyde Park for the Mercedes-Benz World Rowing Sprints

52 athletes from Great Britain, the USA, Germany and the Netherlands participating in the Mercedes-Benz World Rowing Sprints in Hyde Park, London, Great Britain have arrived on site and are preparing for tomorrow’s high speed event.

FISA Executive Director, Matt Smith welcomed the athletes this afternoon during an official gathering to present the members of the four teams. The crews then went on to do some last minute training on the Serpentine Lake before the big day.

The four teams will be competing in 8 boat classes over a 500-metre course. The 13 rowers from each team  will race in two boats – a small boat (pair or four, single or double sculls) and then combine into two large boats – the eight and quadruple sculls. The eight will be made up of the men’s four and the men and women’s pair. The quadruple scull will consist of the women’s double sculls and the men and women’s single sculls.

Racing begins at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon and will be broadcast live on Eurosport from 2:30 to 3:30 GMT (3:30 to 4:30 CET); the victory ceremony will take place at 15:20 GMT. Visit www.worldrowing.com for a full timetable of events.
