Akos Haller and Tibor Petö of the 2001 World Championship gold medal winning men’s double are once again receiving accolades in their home country.

After being named the “Best team in Hungary” for 2001 by the Hungarian sports journalists early this year the young rowers have been selected as “Best Hungarian sportsmen for 2001” by Hemingway LTD, the American based fast food company.

22-year old Tibor Petö and his crewmate 25-year old Akos Haller were chosen over several other Hungarian athletes, all 2001 world champions in their respective sports.

A televised ceremony was held for the award during which the two rowers were asked, in Hollywood style, for their handprints. These will be exposed in the largest Pizza Hut restaurant in Budapest, one of the many owned by Hemingway LTD.

Petö and Haller have been rowing together in the double since 1998. After placing fifth at the 2000 Olympic Games they went on to win gold in each of the three World Cup regattas they attended in 2001 and closed the season with the World Championships gold medal.
