New FISA Continental Representative for North America
Eduardo Palomo of El Salvador has been appointed the new FISA Continental Representative for North America by the FISA Council to replace Pablo Span who retired at the end of last year.
The Continental Representatives serve as liaisons between the FISA Council and the rowing federations in their respective continents and are asked to travel widely within their continent to promote the sport of rowing. They also play a key role in ensuring the proper organisations of international regattas held in their continent.
Palomo started rowing in his native El Salvador and was the founder and is current president of the El Salvador Rowing and Canoe Federation. He helped elevate the participation in El Salvador rowing from two to several hundred. It is now a national sport and El Salvador crews compete at World Rowing Championships around the globe.
In addition, Palomo was also the founder of the Central American Rowing Confederation which succeeded in having rowing included on the Programme of the Central American Games.
Palomo will complete Span’s four year appointment which expires at the end of 2004.
