New Russian Rowing Federation Presidium Elected
FISA, the International Rowing Federation, has received written confirmation from the Russian National Olympic Committee that the Extraordinary Conference of the Russian Rowing Federation did take place on 29 March 2008 in Moscow and took place in accordance with the directives of FISA.
The new President of the Russian Rowing Federation is Leonid Drachevsky, former rower and coach as well as a former FISA Vice President and well-known Russian diplomat. The Vice President is Alexander Konovalov, a lawyer, former rower and presently Governor of the Volga Region of the Russian Federation. Former World Champion rower and Thomas Keller medal winner Yuri Pimenov is also a member. The Entire Presidium of 12 people was freshly elected and were not members of the previous presidium.
This new Presidium then banned until 29 March 2011 all former members of the Presidium from serving in accordance with FISA wishes. As well, eight national team coaches, medical staff and support personnel were relieved of all duties with the Russian National Rowing Team until 2011 as well.
FISA’s Executive Committee is now discussing the situation and expects to announce a final decision on this regrettable situation shortly.
