Nick Green gets Induction into the Australian Sport Hall of Fame
Dual Olympic rowing champion Nick Green has joined a distinct group of sporting heros with his induction into the Australian Sport Hall of Fame at the annual dinner in Melbourne last Thursday (6th December).
The honour marks the end of an outstanding career, which included two Olympic gold medals and multiple world championships.
Green’s outstanding achievements started back in 1990, as a member of the Australian coxless four that won the World Championship and earned the now famous name of the “Oarsome Foursome”.
With back to back Olympic victories in the coxless four in 1992 and 1996 Green reached the pinnacle of his sport and along with his crew mates, James Tomkins, Mike MacKay, Drew Ginn and Andrew Cooper became a household name in Australia.
Green now joins fellow “Oarsome Foursome” member Andrew Cooper as a member of the hall of fame along with their long-time coach Noel Donaldson who previously received an associate membership, which are given as an honour to coaching and support staff.
Meanwhile, the two remaining members of the “Oarsome Foursome”- Drew Ginn and James Tomkins were among the 100+ rowers who participated in the 5km time trial for the Australian rowing team of 2002.
The trials go on over four days and will culminate with the team’s final trials in April next year.
