Four international rowing coaches have been nominated by the FISA Executive Committee and Competitive Rowing Commission for the FISA Coach of the year Award.

The coaches that have been nominated for the 2001 award are:

French National Team Director Eberhard Mund whose crews won 5 World Championship medals this year including two gold. He has been in charge of the National Team in France for nearly a decade now and has led France to its best results ever.

Austrian national team coach Martin Kessler, who this year coached his lightweight men’s four to a World Championship gold medal.

Nick Gioga of Romania whose crews continue to succeed including the gold medal winning men’s eight this year.

Jutta Lau, the highly successful German women’s coach who led her crews to three gold medals this year in Lucerne – women’s single sculls, women’s double sculls and women’s quadruple sculls.

The FISA Executive Committee and Competitive Rowing Commission will submit their votes before October 15th and the winner will be announced at the FISA World Coaches Conference in Bucharest, Romania on the 3rd of November 2001.

Introduced in 1998, past recipients of this prestigious award include Bent Jensen of Denmark and Al Morrow of Canada in 1999. Last year the award went to the GBR men’s four coach Jurgen Grobler.
