In just under one month, the key players of the rowing world will all gather at the first ever World Rowing Forum, which will be held in Milan, Italy from November 14 to 16.

Over forty speakers will present tailored topics to four groups of participants: coaches, sports doctors, regatta organisers and sports or federation managers.

All four sessions, held over three days, will be lead by experts in each field. The sports management session is coordinated by TSE consulting, an International sports consultancy based in Lausanne.

Luiggino Torrigiani, event management consultant and former member of two international sports federations will be leading the regatta organisation track.

A complete medical programme has been established covering many of the hot topics of the moment. Among these, the fight against blood doping which will be presented by eminent IOC (International Olympic Committee) and WADA (World anti-doping agency) speakers such as Alain Garnier and Michel Audran. They will develop on the benefits of pharmacology and new technologies, the latest efforts in blood doping as well as the haematological passport.

Other top speakers of this programme include professor Bengt Saltin, specialist in exercise physiology and recently recognised by the IOC for his significant contribution in his field. Saltin will also devote a full session to the members of the coaching track.

Several FISA specialists will cover other topics such as “The medical aspects of Paralympic athletes” and “The medical aspects of spine and rib problems”.

The coaching session will look at a comparative study of coaching techniques in the USA and in the Netherlands, with Mike Teti, René Mijnders and Jan Klerks.

Session five of this track will compare coaching techniques in different sports, and will feature Alessandro Vanoi, Italian cross country skiing coach and Rolf Saterdahl, Norwegian biathlon and speedskating expert.

A full session will be dedicated to low back pain in rowing and will be presented by a specialist on this topic – Alison McGregor from Great Britain.

A joint session, regrouping all four groups will take place at the beginning and at the end of the Forum. During these joint sessions some general topics to suit each of the four interest groups will be presented by US Head Coach Mike Teti, Professor Timo Santalainen, specialist in strategic consultancy, Richard Worth from Team Marketing, who created the Football Champions League as well as FISA president Denis Oswald.
