Poland, United States and Germany bids selected
FISA announced at the BearingPoint Rowing World Cup in Munich the venues for the 2009 World Rowing Championships, the 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships and the 2008 World Rowing Under 23 Championships which will be put forward for selection at the FISA Congress next September.
The International Rowing Federation (FISA) Council selected:
– Poznan (Poland) for the 2009 World Rowing Championships,
– Gainesville (United States) for the 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships and
– Brandenburg (Germany) 2008 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.
The FISA Congress convenes on 5 September, 2005 in Gifu, Japan and will have a ratification vote on the decision of the three selected locations when they meet following the Rowing World Championships.
Delegations from the bidding National Federations presented their bids on 29 April, 2005 in London. Competing against Poznan who hosted the Under-23 Championships and Rowing World Cup in 2004, was Amsterdam, the Netherlands for the 2009 World Rowing Championships. Amsterdam will host the 2005 Under-23 Championships.
Up against Gainesville, United States – the home of the 1996 Olympics – was Brive-la-Gaillarde, France. They both bid for the 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships. Gainsville, the home of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics rowing course was chosen. Brive hosted the World University Championships in 2004.
Poznan and Brandenburg, Germany both bid for the 2008 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, with Brandenburg being chosen. Brandenburg will also host the 2005 World Rowing Junior Championships.
2006 BearingPoint Rowing World Cup regattas announced
The three rounds of the 2006 BearingPoint Rowing World Cup regatta series have been announced by FISA. They are:
– Munich, Germany (26-28 May)
– Poznan, Poland (16-18 June)
– Lucerne, Switzerland (7-9 July)
This will be the nineth time Munich has hosted the Rowing World Cup, at the 1972 Olympic course, and the 2006 event will serve as the official test event for the 2007 World Rowing Championships.
Poznan, which successfully staged the World Cup and the Under-23 Championships in 2004, will host the second on the famous Malta Lake and Lucerne, on the beautiful Rotsee, is the site of the series final.
