Only one week to go until the close of nominations on 27 February for the 2006 Thomas Keller medal which is awarded each year by the International Rowing Federation (FISA) for an “outstanding career in rowing”.

For the first time since its creation in 1990, the nominations process for this award is open to the general public. Nomination forms (attached or available on www.worldrowing.com) must be returned by fax or e-mail to marion.gallimore@fisa.org or fax: +41 21 617 83 75 by 27 February 2006.

The medal has been established as the highest honour in the sport of rowing and is presented to recognise an exceptional rowing career as well as exemplary sportsmanship.

The following five factors are taken into consideration when selecting the successful recipient:

1. Success on the international level
2. ?Type? of career
3. Technical mastery of the sport
4. Sportsmanship
5. ?Legendary? aspect

N.B.: The medal should be awarded in principle to someone up to five years after official retirement.

The finalists will be selected by the Council and Commissions of FISA and this list will be submitted to the Keller Medal Committee on Friday 3 March 2006 for the final selection. The 18-carat gold Thomas Keller medal will be presented on Sunday 9 July during the Rowing World Cup final in Lucerne, Switzerland by Dominik Keller, son of the late Thomas Keller.
