Princeton Will Not Host Zurich Rowing World Cup in 2002
The International Rowing Federation (FISA) and the Princeton International Regatta Association (PIRA) have decided not to stage a leg of the 2002 Zurich Rowing World Cup in Princeton this coming May.
PIRA, in any case, is moving forward with significant improvements to the Mercer County Regatta Course, site of the first leg of the 2001 Zurich Rowing World Cup. Plans include an expansion of the Mercer County Boathouse and the construction of a permanent Finish Tower. Three bays are being added to the existing boathouse along with 2000 sq feet (185 sq metres) of office space for the United States Rowing Association, the National Governing Body.
PIRA will stage an international regatta on 11th and 12th May and will invite the world’s best four international men’s and women’s eights based on their performances at the 2001 FISA World Rowing Championships. Discussions for the possibility of a 2003 Rowing World Cup leg in Princeton have already begun.
