Laura Rauchfuss and Steve Tucker have been named 2001 Female and Male Athletes of the year by USRowing, an official press release announced Tuesday (13 November).

Rauchfuss was the stroke of the US women’s quad bronze medallist at the FISA World Rowing Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland this year. It was the first time since 1993 that an American crew had won a world championship or Olympic medal in this event. Laura Rauchfuss was also a silver medallist at the Zurich Rowing World Cup 2001 in Princeton and bronze medallist at the World Cup event in Seville, Spain.

2000 Olympian Tucker was fourth in the lightweight men’s single sculls at the FISA World Rowing Championships. The single sculler was recognised for winning every speed order and trials in the lightweight single as well as finishing second at the World Championship trials in the open weight singles, and achieving a second place in the Head of the Charles in Boston last month.

The 2001 USRowing Male and Female Athletes of the year were selected by the athletes and coaches of the 2001 World Championships Team. They will be honoured at the 2001 USRowing annual convention in Boston in December.
