Many of the athletes participating in the camp have already competed at a regional and international level and are looking to increase their knowledge and skills in preparation for the important upcoming season.  Several of the women who are coming from the Asian region were in competition at the Asian Games in Busan, Korea last fall and some of the other athletes have competed at both FISA World Championships and FISA World Cup regattas.

Thor Nilsen, the FISA Development Director who is assisting in coordinating various aspects of the camp says he is excited to see the camp evolving into a true development and educational opportunity for women from around the globe.

The camp is organized by the FISA Women’s Commission Chair, Tricia Smith and Competitive Commission Member, Penny Chuter and will cover topics such as technique, rigging, physiology, training, psychology, race strategy, nutrition and specific women’s issues.  The aim of the camp is to provide women from a variety of regions a chance to learn more about the key factors to success in their chosen sport and provide a forum for learning as well as discussion.

This year will see a wide number of participants who are setting their sites on qualification for the 2004 Athens Olympics through either the Milan World Championships in August this year or through the regional qualification regattas that will take place in May of 2004.
