There was another day of exciting racing at the 9th Asian Junior Championships in Hong Kong today. Weather conditions remained fine and a strengthening tail-wind saw some fast times out on the course.

Wang Ming Hui of Chinese Taipei won the repechage of the men’s single sculls over Korea’s Min Ji Hong, in a time of 7:33.30. Japan’s Kazuya Hamaki and Kazakhstan’s Prikhodko Pavel also qualified for the A final.

In the women’s single there was a win for Dwibedy Pravasini of India in 8:20.37 over Yuki Tamagawa of Japan. China’s Zhang Li Xin and Indonesia’s Masi Rahayu also qualified.

The junior men’s coxless four saw one of the most exciting races of the day with five of the six crews challenging for only four qualifying places over the last 500 meters of the race. At the line it was China first in 6:14.25, followed by Chinese Taipei (6:16.55), Kazakhstan (6:16.76) and Japan (6:18.31) with India and Sri Lanka missing out.

Li Chuan Zong and Wang Chuan Kai won the repechage of men’s double sculls in 6:45.25 with Chinese Taipei, India and Japan also qualifying.

The women’s doubles saw Masi Ramayu of Indonesia, who had earlier qualified in the single, go out again and win the doubles repechage with partner Batuwael Femy. The Indonesian crew finished in 7:27.53. Korea and Chinese Taipei also qualified for the A final.

The women’s quad race was a trial row for lanes, with the final to be held at the weekend. Chinese Taipei won today in 6:46.32 with Japan second, Korea third, China fourth and Hong Kong fifth.

Finals for the men’s and women’s singles and men’s fours will be held tomorrow and the remaining finals will take place on Sunday. Tomorrow night the Hong Kong China Rowing Association will host a gala dinner to celebrate its Silver Jubilee. Visiting officials and local sports dignitaries will attend.
