Cool winter weather keeps most European rowing nations off the water and on the rowing machines, so the FISA Team Cup in the southern Spain city of Seville is a welcome break and a chance to feel the water again.

Raced over two days, the first day consists of 1,000 metre races followed by 500 metre sprints on day two.

Hailing from 22 countries the twelfth edition of the FISA Team Cup includes top crews from Canada and Colombia. At the end of day one Spain headed the teams category. But, despite Spain’s large participation numbers, the Netherlands followed closely behind only seven points down on the leaders. The Netherlands has a strong contingent of rowers including top single scullers Marit van Eupen and Dirk Lippits.

Great Britain, sitting in third on the points table at the end of the day, has brought a top fleet of rowers including World Champions from the men’s four, Steve Williams, Andy Hodge, Alex Partridge and Peter Reed.
Racing will continue on Sunday 19 February with 500 metre sprints.
