Rowing Loses Top Journalist
British rowing journalist Geoffrey Page – rowing correspondent for the Daily Telegraph passed away on Sunday 31 March in his 72nd year.
Page was president of the British Association of Rowing journalists and was Captain of Thames rowing club of which he also became the president last month.
Extremely respected on the International circuit, Page served as rowing correspondent for the Sunday Telegraph from 1967 and the Daily Telegraph since 1984.
He had rowed for the University of London and competed in the 1954 Commonwealth Games, winning silver in the eight and bronze in the coxed four.
He had been a member of the Oxford coaching squad and was appointed national coach and selector for the 1964 and 1968 Olympics. He also guided the University College Dublin crew to a historic victory in the Ladies Plate at Henley in 1974.
