Rowers in Turin

More than 1200 participants took part in the 22nd annual D’inverno Sul Po – Turin International Regatta – in Turin, Italy on 12 – 13 February. This was a step up from last year’s race when 900 participants competed over the 6000 metre distance.

Organiser Carlo Pacciani said the increase in entries was due to a larger contingent of foreign rowers including participants from France, Switzerland, Lithuania, Great Britain and Turkey.

Special note should be made of the Turkish rowers from the Fenerbache Rowing Club of Istanbul who finished second in the senior men’s eight with the French team from Aviron Grenoblois in first and Italy’s S.C.Lario with the two World Champions, Stefano Introzzi and Edoardo Verzotti, finishing third.

In the women’s eight first and second places went to Italian teams A.S.C. Gavirate (with Gabriella and Gisella Bascelli) in first and Sisport Fiat in second. Third place went to France’s Aviron Aguibelette.

The regatta was raced on Turin’s Po River which runs through the centre of Turin – venue for the 2006 Winter Olympics. .
