US Championships Begin
US national team members Abigail Cromwell and Stacey Borgman have led the charge for the lightweight women’s single, advancing to the semifinals at the United States National Rowing Chamionships in Cambden, New Jersey yesterday.
They are among 1800 rowers taking part in the championships which cover the elite, senior, intermediate and junior categories.
Despite the regatta starting on Wednesday, not all of the elite entries have been finalised, with many of the elite events featuring straight finals beginning tomorrow.
Several of the crews selected for the national teams earlier this week will not attend, choosing to focus on vital World Championships preparation instead.
Cromwell and Borgman are representing the national team well though, with wins in their lightweight women’s single sculls heats in racing yesterday.
The women were selected to row in the lightweight women’s quad for the FISA World Rowing Championships in Lucerne next month with Jennifer Edwards and Marny Jaastad.
US selectors will have a keen eye on the elite men’s and women’s eight races – the World Championship eights are yet to be selected and several potential crew members are in action.
Racing continues until Sunday. Worldrowing.com will feature news from the regatta on Monday morning.
Results are available from the USRowing website, www.usrowing.org
