The United States heads the list of countries who have qualified boats for semifinals and finals, with 17 crews through after heats and repechages finished yesterday (Wednesday).

A total of 41 countries have crews advancing beyond the early stages, as semifinals start today.

Germany is second on the table of qualified crews with 16, while Italy has 14, Great Britain 13, Australia 11, France 10 and the Netherlands 9.

Despite the traditionally strong rowing nations taking the top places, several smaller or emerging rowing nations have also successfully qualified boats.

Cuba and Greece have three crews each through, Chile and Japan have two, while Brazil and Mexico have one each.

The figures do not include the lightweight women's coxless pair which is a straight final.

Eight Group A boat classes feature semifinals today, with six Group B boat classes in action tomorrow.
