What do the medallists say?
W2- (Australia)
Fleur Chew (Bronze)
Chew, who rowed in the single at the Rowing World Cup in Eton last May says, ?I am much more comfortable in the pair.? About racing later on in the eight, she comments that ?it would have been a waste to come to Munich and not race two races.?
W1x (Belarus)
Ekaterina Karsten (Gold)
“To win so often means practicing a lot. Not winning motivates me to practice even more.?
W1x (New Zealand)
Georgina Evers-Swindell (Bronze)
?We rowed so much in the double together. Rowing in the single is just to do something different,” explains Georgina, who won gold in the double at the Olympic Games with her sister Caroline.
M1x (Germany)
Marcel Hacker (Gold)
?I definitely used the advantage of rowing in front of my home crowd. I know the course and the wind here very well. For the next three weeks until Lucerne I have to be careful to not get sick which is quite difficult with all these weather changes.?
M1x (New Zealand)
Mahe Drysdale (Silver)
About his injury two months ago, Drysdale comments: ?I came to Munich hoping to make it into the A Finals, so actually making a silver medal is fantastic.”
M2- (New Zealand)
Nathan Twaddle (Gold)
Regarding the future, Nathan Twaddle says, ?I hope George Bridgewater and I can stay together in the pair until the Olympics in Beijing, but for that we try to be faster than people coming up.?
M2x (Germany)
Christian Schreiber (Gold)
“We had a really good race from the beginning despite the strong bow-wind. But we didn’t think we would be that good.?
M4- (Great Britain)
Peter Reed (Gold)
“I am really enjoying rowing with this crew – it is so easy and I love being here in Munich. The conditions are good, the crowd is good and we get so much support from our team. We get massages and everything. I feel spoiled.?
LW2x (Germany)
Laura Tasch (Silver)
After a spectacular finish, Laura says, ?Especially the crowd helped us for the finish. But I hope there will be even more visitors at the World Rowing Championships in 2007. Our first two races here in Munich weren’t really good so in the Finals we wanted to show that we still could do it.?
LW2x (Germany)
Berit Carow (Silver)
About being the Germany 2 crew: ?It is a strange feeling being the second crew and not rowing at the World Rowing Championships, so we really enjoyed rowing here in Munich.?
LM2x (Italy)
Leonardo Pettinari (Gold)
Rowing with a new partner (Stefano Basalini) he says, ?After the Olympics rowing with Elia Luini wasn’t going very well so we tried some new partners. I now really enjoy rowing with Stefano.?
LM2x (Germany)
Manuel Brehmer (Silver)
Rowing after Athens with a new partner (Joerg Lehnigk) he says, ?It is a new beginning with a younger partner and we would like to row together until the Beijing Olympics and hopefully get a medal there.?
W4x (Great Britain)
Katherine Grainger (Gold)
?I am always happy winning races and I hope we keep on doing so. The course here in Munich is very good. We usually have great weather here and it will be a great place for the World Rowing Championships in 2007?
On their plans for the coming weeks: ?We will start in Lucerne and probably in Henley. Well, Henley is not as important as a Rowing World Cup but it is always a good practice and last but not least it is in front of the home crowd.?
M4x (Slovenia)
Iztok Cop (Gold)
“After the Olympics last year I started with cross-country skiing more seriously. From October to March I did cross-country skiing. Then in the spring I was more eager to go rowing again?
About the race he says, ?I enjoy rowing with this crew – w’ll stay together for the World Rowing Championships?
W8+ (Netherlands)
Helen Tanger (Silver)
“It was a good race. We just started rowing together two weeks ago, so you always hope to win but we are actually quite happy with second place. There might be some changes for the World Rowing Championships in Japan because there is still a number nine at home. So we will see.?
M8+ (Italy)
Carlo Mornati (Gold)
?In Eton we were just setting up the crew and now here in Munich we came to check again and it went well, we won. But in Lucerne it will be harder because Canada and the US are also setting up new crews so we will see what happens there.?
M8+ (Germany)
Stephan Koltzk (Bronze)
?We are disappointed with the result of this race, from the beginning on it didn’t go very well. But now we are even more eager to go back practicing and to show in Lucerne what we actually can do. We just have to row like we did before.?
