The discovery by US researchers of the new designer steroid, known as THG, earlier this year prompted FISA to re-analyse all samples taken at the 2003 World Rowing Championships held in Milan last August.  All samples were negative.

Importantly, the 2003 World Rowing Championships also served as an Olympic Games qualification regatta with 130 out of 202 boats qualifying for Athens 2004.

Denis Oswald, FISA president says:

?This confirms rowing’s commitment to the fight against doping. It’s a very positive start to the Olympic year ahead.?

In March 2003, FISA joined all International Federations, nearly 80 governments as well as National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and inter and non-governmental organisations in endorsing the new World Anti-Doping Code at the World Conference on Doping in Sport held in Copenhagen.
