At the 117th IOC session in Singapore 26 of the current 28 Olympic sports were confirmed for the 2012 programme. Baseball and softball were not confirmed and will miss out for 2012. The IOC Executive Board then went on to propose karate and world squash for inclusion into the games (from the five candidate sports: roller sports, world squash, golf, karate and rugby). Neither of the two sports received the mandatory 2/3rds vote in order to move into the London Olympic Games, and therefore the Olympic program will remain at 26 sports for 2012.

FISA Executive Director, Matt Smith, currently in Lucerne, Switzerland for the final 2005 BearingPoint Rowing World Cup regatta commented, "FISA is pleased that the noble sport of rowing has been confirmed by the IOC and we look forward to a wonderful Olympic regatta in Eton in July 2012."
