The 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championships will, for the first time, feature two days of finals; on the Saturday and Sunday.

The 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championships will be held in Brest, Belarus, from 22 to 25 July with finals being raced on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 July. The decision on which events will be raced on which day is made by the anticipated number of entries in each event.

According to the provisional programme dated February 2010, events where FISA anticipates 12 or fewer entries, the final will be held on the Saturday, while events where it is anticipated that there will be 13 or more entries, the final will be on Sunday, except the men’s eight which was placed on Sunday. The Women’s Eight was planned to be raced on Saturday under the assumption that it would have 12 or fewer entries. This makes a provisional programme of 6 finals for women and 2 for men on the Saturday while having 10 finals for men and 3 for women on the Sunday.

FISA’s Executive Committee has decided to move the women’s eight final to the Sunday and the men’s eight final to the Saturday. This will provide more balance between men’s and women’s finals on both days, and provide an opportunity for doubling up between the women’s four and the women’s eight.

Executive Director for FISA Matt Smith added, “FISA wants as many women's eights at all levels and is happy to make small programme changes if it will help create more opportunities for national federations to double up into the women's eight.”
