Drysdale to race on River Po
On Sunday, more than 500 scullers from 19 countries will race down 11km on River Po, while on Saturday, more than 200 boys and girls aged 11 to 14 will compete in the Kinder Skiff regatta over a 4km distance.
“We are really pleased with the great number of entries, as we have had an increase of 25% compared to 2008,” says Umberto Denis, president of host rowing club Cerea Royal. “We wish to thank our sponsor Filippi and the Italian rowing clubs for the support they have given us, placing 58 boats at our disposal for the event.”
In the absence of 2008 female winner Mirka Knapkova from the Czech Republic, it will be Emma Twigg of New Zealand and Yulia Levina of Russia who will be top contenders for the top spot.
Some of Italy’s most successful lightweight scullers will also line up for the race: previous Silver Skiff winner Elia Luini, as well as Marcello Miani, Lorenzo Bertini and Daniele Gilardoni.
The Kinder Skiff regatta will start on Saturday at 13h30, with starts scheduled every 20 seconds.
The Silver Skiff regatta will start on Sunday at 10h. The 11km course includes a buoy turn at the Moncalieri islet.
