Atlantic rowers in seventh place
This outstanding effort is against able bodied rowers and also puts Madsen and Festor into 11th place overall of the 23 solo, pairs and fours entered.
The competitive duo, rowing under the name “Row of Life”, are now going after the next boat – a four-person entry called Mission Atlantic.
As well as physical challenges, Madsen and Festor have communication problems from speaking different languages. Their website indicates they are in great spirits and sometimes able to enjoy the humour of their situation.
“The clouds gathered over the “Row of Life” boat. Angela excited to get a shower, gathered her soap and shampoo and waited… but it was not to happen. Barely enough water fell to get her wet. She pointed to the clouds and yelled, 'Piss on you!' Franck, thinking Angela was teaching him some English, now points upward when he sees clouds and says, 'Piss on you!'”
Racing started on 2 December 2007 in La Gomera, Canary Islands, and will finish 2,900 nautical miles later in Barbados.
