Romania has a very successful history in women’s sweep rowing and is synonymous with Olympic gold medals in the women’s eight and the women’s pair with such athletes as Elisabeta Lipa, Viorica Susanu and Georgeta Andrunache-Damian. In the wake of this legacy and hoping to emulate the same level of success, four-time European Champion Nicoleta Albu will compete in her first Olympic Games this summer with partner Camelia Lupascu. Albu also has three World Championship medals to her name and finished fifth in the World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia in the women’s pair.
