A fast five minutes with Bernhard and Paul Sieber

Meet the Sieber brothers. Austria’s Bernhard and Paul Sieber are two true rising stars in the ranks of men’s lightweight rowing. They arrived on the international scene in 2007 and 2008, respectively, and since then they have been steadily climbing the rankings. 2012 saw their most successful season to date as the duo claimed their first world title at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships. They narrowly missed out on a place on the podium at the European Rowing Championships, where they finished fourth. They start the 2016 Olympiad holding Olympic gold as the ultimate achievement and we have a feeling that these determined brothers will put their all into fulfilling their dream. For that reason, World Rowing has named them February’s Rising Stars.

My sporting hero is… (Bernhard Sieber) Ole Einar Bjoerndalen

My biggest idol is (Paul Sieber) Albert Einstein, because he’s probably the smartest man who ever lived.

I row because… (BS) There’s probably just one thing which is that there is no better feeling than that of complete harmony between rowers in a boat.

My goal in rowing … (BS & PS) is to be Olympic Champion?

My least favourite training session is… (PS) any session on the erg before 8am.

My favourite training session is… (BS & PS) final preparation before important races including 1k-pieces.

My toughest race was… (PS) the final at Final Olympic Qualification Regatta last year.

My favourite race win was… (BS & PS) World Rowing Under 23 Championships final (BLM2x) in 2012

I study…  (BS) Environmental- and Bioresourcemanagement  and Economics. (PS) I study Technical Physics.

In 10 years’ time I will… (BS) hopefully have a great rowing career with phenomenal memories behind me.

I’m most relaxed when… (PS) I listen to music or read a book.

I’m motivated by… (PS) the challenges that await us in the next years.

A typical day… (BS & PS) starts at 6am with getting up for the first training session. Between 10am and 2pm I’m at university and the second session starts at 6pm.

I get annoyed when…  (BS) it takes about 3 minutes that my brother get some few μl blood out of my ear to get the daily blood values.

My favourite boat to row is… (PS) the double scull.

My favourite food is… (PS) Palatschinken (Pancakes but in austrian style)
