Korea impresses at final inspection
Executive Director Matt Smith, Events Director Svetla Otzetova, Marketing & Communications Director Andy Couper and Events Manager Colleen Orsmond spent four days in Chungju from 9 to 12 April, inspecting the facilities and reviewing all aspects of operational planning including television production and sustainability initiatives.
Construction of the extensive new infrastructure planned for the event has been completed on schedule. This includes a new grandstand building, a new finish tower, a new two-storey boathouse, a new marina centre and a new 2000 metre floating television road.
At the conclusion of the inspection visit, the FISA Executive Committee, in consultation with the Events Team, the Chungju Organising Committee and government authorities, has reviewed the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and has confirmed its full support for the World Rowing Championships in Chungju.
"The facilities that have been put in place in Chungju for the 2013 World Rowing Championships are outstanding,” says Smith. “We are looking forward to a great event which has the additional benefit of leaving a world class infrastructure legacy for the further development of rowing in Korea and Asia.”
