Linz heatwave alters Under 23 Championships schedule
Hot temperatures at the Linz-Ottensheim regatta course mean that the World Rowing Federation, FISA, has decided to change the competition schedule in order to avoid the hottest part of the day. Between 1pm and 4pm (CET) temperatures are expected to reach into the mid-30 degrees Celsius as the week of racing advances. The new schedule will aim to avoid racing during these times.
Racing will start Wednesday 24 July at the planned time of 3pm (CET) with the schedule altering from Thursday 25 July onwards as temperatures are predicted to climb through the rest of the week. The semifinals, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, have been advanced to Saturday morning starting at 9am. For the finals on Sunday, racing will start at 9am with the B-finals, followed at 10:30am with A -finals, there will be no lunch break and the last race, the final of the Under 23 men’s eight, will take place at 1:06pm.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, temperatures are predicted to peak at 31 degrees Celsius with very little wind. The highest temperatures are expected on Sunday for the finals.
